Take the sustainability test

Our philosophy

The Sustainable Salon Program has the objective of making your salon more respectful of people and the environment. The program is promoted by Davines, a company manufacturing professional haircare products, and is open to all hairdressers in the world! The project rests on three core principles: Davines Sustainable Beauty Manifesto, the philosophy of the B Corp movement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Let’s take a look at them!

"At Davines, we believe that the balance between beauty and sustainability, what we call “sustainable beauty”, can improve our lives and the world around us." Davide Bollati, Davines Group Chairman

Sustainable Beauty Manifesto

The ideal of beauty in a sustainable salon must find inspiration in the balance between form and substance. By creating "beauty”, you will encourage people to take care of themselves, of the environment in which they live and work, and of what they love.

Sustainability Report

Therefore, sustainable beauty is not only an ideal. It generates a positive impact that we can assess and measure, to achieve more responsible business.

In your journey as a Sustainable Salon, you will be asked to verify the success of your business not only in terms of profit but according to four factors of positive impact: People, Planet, Community and Leadership. These four areas are inspired by what the B Corp movement and Davines have directly done to measure the road already trodden towards sustainability.
Indeed, every year Davines prepares its Sustainability Report in which it transparently sets forth the results achieved towards the wellbeing of the people working for the company, of the community it operates in and of the planet. Furthermore, for your salon you will measure also the Leadership component, which will help you to develop the ability to be an example and a visionary leader.

B Corps are firms that want to redesign their way of doing business, considering their operations as a positive force that creates value also for non-shareholding stakeholders, such as their employees, the local community, and the environment.

B Corps are enterprises that no longer simply wait for change, but have started to drive the change.

Being certified as a B Corp is not easy. Davines was certified as a B Corp in 2016, after undergoing a B Impact Assessment, a quantitative procedure that analyses every aspect of the business activity and measures with an exact score its impact on several areas of interest. Only businesses with scores of more than 80 points out of 200 qualify as B Corps and the certification must be renewed every three years.

The Sustainable Salon Program has a similar structure, consisting of a first step (assessment) followed by the certification. For your salon, this could be the first step to join the B Corp movement.

Sustainable Development Goals

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the goals for sustainable development identified by the governments of the 193 Countries members of the UN. It is a shared plan to be implemented by 2030 to ensure our planet’s future, a public project with very ambitious goals concerning the environment, health and inclusion.
We all need to cooperate and, in their job, also hairdressers can give a material contribution to the achievement of the SDGs. The Sustainable Salon Program tries to implement the UN suggestions in a hairstylist’s everyday life.
